This week’s edition of Listia All-star is a little different. One of the best parts of Listia is the community and the people that make it up. We interact with so many people in the marketplace that it’s great to take a moment and see the story of a single person. Today it’s Cindy with her inspirational story on change.
I just wanted to tell you what a difference Listia has made in my life. At one time, I was struggling with depression and substance abuse issues. Try as I might, I just couldn’t seem to stay clean and sober. I thought I’d never make it into the world of recovery. Then I gave it one more mighty try. And I made it! That was 7 years ago. All these years later, I look back at what got me through the loneliest, darkest days of my life. Listia was one of the first things I did in early sobriety that made me feel good deep down inside.
So, here I was, new in recovery from substance abuse, not working, bored, depressed and very low on self esteem. Then, fulfilling a lifelong dream, I put myself through school to become a substance abuse counselor and eventually, I got a job (which I am still doing and loving it) in a detox and today I live a fulfilling and wonderful life.
One of the things I was taught about early recovery was that you HAD to find a hobby…something to keep you busy and look forward to, give you a sense of accomplishment. I chose to dabble in beading. I began making bracelets, necklaces, lanyards and other such stuff. I found I had a real knack for this!
Then I found Listia. I don’t even remember how I found you, but I joined and began listing the things I was making with beads. To my surprise, the other members loved them. I remember how excited I would get when someone commented or bid on a listing. I received many friend requests, too.
Listia gave me a sense of purpose. It was fun to meet other members, many of whom I still socialize with through facebook. Listia really gave me something to work towards and something to be proud of. I take my “business” very seriously and have received great feedback.
Listia is also an invaluable tool in my work. See, I auction off the bracelets I make and in turn, I am able to order books for the clients to read, arts and craft supplies for our groups and much more!

The way Listia keeps raising the $ to point value every day, it’s not going to matter that much about the New Shipping feature, because nobody will be using it because all of the sellers will have left Listia because they are killing the sites for sellers.
FYI last Sept, the $ to point amount was 4950… look at it a year later !!!

And for those that think it’s the buyers and sellers creating this inflation and Listia doesn’t have any control over the inflation, think about it again.
Listia has the option to raise and lower the point value and make it whatever they really want it to. Since it’s just points, what do they care how many credits they give out as long as they get the Cash coming in. When is the last time you could take your credits and bring it to a 7-11 and get something…. NEVER… on the other hand.. Listia gets Cash from the ADS and Cash from the people that Buy their credits.
Sounds like a Win Win Deal for Listia and a Lose Lose deal for Listia Buyers and Sellers.

Cindy’s story is full of encouragement and inspiration to the many out there who still find themselves enslaved by substance abuse. Her recovery from drug abuse is a statement to all victims of the malpractice, that there is hope for them. However , the challenge is the decision to take the first step is theirs to make. Nobody can do that for them no matter how much they are willing and able to help.
Very true! I find now, in my job as a counselor, that the hardest part is encouraging my clients to find faith and hope in a brighter future!

Well, it is clearly obvious that Listia doens’t care about their sellers and ONLY care about the CASH they can get from people that buy their credits because they keep raising and raising the $ to point value higher and higher with no end in site.
The only end is going to be when the site has no more sellers and no more buyers… and they will be scratching their heads wondering.. “where did we go wrong” DUH… people have been commenting on this problem for over 6 months but they just have their blinders on and just keep laughing their way to the bank as people cash in their points and also buy their points.
Oh well, can’t say we didn’t try.

I cashed in my credits and quit selling on here. Just is not worth it at all. Yes Listia has control of this, they have people join everyday and letting us oldies slide out. Hey Listia you cant get no more from me. Oh i will watch auctions and miss some of the great ones on here,but bye bye greedy people.The week i quit some of your oldest sellers quit. A New High again today!! When will Listia realize that they are only hurting themselves by making the Sellers leave the site.
Eventually the people buying the points (Newbies) will realize that even when they buy the point, a day or week later, it won’t be worth the same amount as they paid because of the inflation. Oh well, Listia will just keep laughing their way to the bank until there is no more Listia. How Sad… !!

I’m concerned as I’m confused by the goings-on at Listia. The site is no longer the selling pride platform, it used to be . The direction rates will take is hard to predict which means sellers can’t be sure of making a profit. A new Listia high has become the norm rather than the exception. Something drastic needs to be done by you, Listia to restore your fast disappearing reputation.

My hope is that Listia, will respond favourably to the complaints of members that make up its community. High rates are a stumbling block to many a people willing to do business with it. Looking forward to a solution .

Its not just Listias fault. We have very large group of greedy people on this site.You stay or go??Its all in the roll of the dice. Cant say ive missed it though. Not a fun place anymore, and those sellers dont care either. Its gives them less competion to deal with.!!!But alot of the big sellers are leaving too, just wait ,you will see.
The higher it goes up.. the quicker more people will leave and the more money Listia will stuff in their pockets. I think they are stuffing their pockets for Christmas and will worry about Listia Next year 2017 if the site is still around…. A year late and 20K worth of points too late. Even if they Cap it at 27500, last year in Sept 2015, the $1.00 was worth around 5K. And now it’s 27,500 !! They would have to reduce it down 20K and im positive they won’t do that anytime in the near future. So right now we are stuck between a rock and a cow pie without a shovel to cover the sh*t that they created. It’s going to take more than a CAP to fix this problem that they created. I agree it’s a start, but it’s a start that should have started 10 months ago.
Oh well.
Sure am thankful for leaving.There is only time to watch them fall. Then maybe rebuild???Big business dont care what we ask or say,so lets just sit back and say,I told you so.
