Fixed Price Listings

Listia

Today we are excited to announce the arrival of a new feature on Listia: Fixed Price Listings!

Fixed Price Listings are different from today’s auctions in that there’s no bidding involved, and instead there is only a Get It Now (GIN) option. Some info about this new type of listing:

  1. Fixed Price Listings may only be listed by sellers with the Trusted Seller badge.
Knowing the exact price you want for an item takes experience, so we want to make sure only sellers who’ve earned the Trusted Seller badge have this capability. There are no restrictions on who can place a GIN bid, though.
  2. A listing fee of 50 credits is applied when the item is listed.
  3. If the item sells, there is a 10% transaction fee based on the GIN amount.
This amount is only deducted when you receive credits for the item.
  4. Listings can be created on the Web starting today, and support on our Android and iOS apps is coming soon.
  5. In almost every other way, these listings behave just like Auction Listings.

This new type of listing will benefit both sellers and buyers:

Seller Benefits

  • List with a fixed price to make sure you get the exact amount of credits you want. Have a valuable item that might only attract a few bidders? A Fixed Price Listing can help remove a lot of the uncertainty that may come with auctions and bidding.
  • For high volume sellers, Fixed Price Listings can result in listings that end earlier (you typically won’t have to wait the full listing duration), which means spending less time waiting, and more time earning credits.

Buyer Benefits

  • Fixed Price Listings bring more of that feeling of instant gratification you love when you use Get It Now. Watching and bidding on auctions is fun and exciting, but being able to win an item instantly is equally rewarding!
  • Because Fixed Price Listings encourage sellers to list items they previously might have held out on listing, buyers will start to see new types of items on Listia!

In conjunction with the release of Fixed Price Listings, we are also simplifying the pricing of the Get It Now and Start Bid options on Auction Listings, making them more consistent with how Fixed Price Listings behave.

Get It Now on Auctions

  • The low 50 credit listing fee is staying the same, but will no longer be refunded when the auction ends with GIN.
  • This change is effective today for all new auctions.

Start Bid on Auctions

  • Start Bid currently has a listing fee that increases with the start bid amount. For example, a starting bid of 1,000 costs 100 credits, but a starting bid of 50,000 costs 1,000 credits.
  • This is changing to a low, flat listing fee of 50 credits with a 10% transaction fee on the start bid amount if an item ends with normal bidding (not GIN).
  • Example: If you set a 5,000 start bid on an auction, you’ll pay just 50 credits up front. If your auction ends at 100,000 credits, then a fee of 500 will be applied when you receive your credits. A couple of important things to note:
    • The 10% transaction fee is only based on your start bid, not the final bid amount.
    • If the item does not sell, then no transaction fee is applied.
  • These changes will take effect Wednesday, April 15th, 2015.

The changes to Get It Now and Start Bid come about because we want to make the fees for the various features on listings simple and consistent. Once all the changes roll out, a simple way to think of it is that Fixed Price, GIN and Start Bid all have a very low listing fee of 50 credits. This allows you to list items with these features with little upfront cost and very little risk. Then, for all three features, there will be a 10% transaction fee applied only if the item sells.

Listing Type Listing Fee Transaction Fee
Fixed Price Listing 50 credits 10% of GIN
Only when item sells
Auction with Start Bid
When Start Bid is 500+
50 credits 10% of Start Bid
Only if item sells via regular bidding
10% of starting bid, NOT final amount
Auction with Get It Now 50 credits 10% of GIN
Only when item sells via GIN
All Other Auctions FREE FREE

Onward and Upward!

Along with these changes, you’ll also notice a refreshed browse and search results view on the Web. We’ve made some improvements to display bidding and GIN options more clearly, and we’ve also made the images larger.

Our continued goal is to make Listia a bustling community where members can trade items with each other in a friendly and fun environment. With Fixed Price Listings, we’re now giving sellers a lot more control over how they want to sell their items, and at the same time creating more GIN opportunities for buyers.

Having more options helps everyone find a way to use Listia that feels “just right” for them. We can’t wait to see what you list! 🙂

  1. Now, if you would just apply this to your own Rewards Store, everyone would be happy. 😉

    • Amen to that!

    • I’d like to know how does one start a new blog article on here? i have made some friends on listia. my problem with the site currently is their apparent lack of concern for those people that actually “play their game” and put in for shipping. when i joined 2.5 years ago maximum buy in was at 400creds/1$… not it is 2137creds/1$. so what gives? why are they super inflating their own market thus killing us proper seller that do put up the shipping $ rather than do surveys for credits. also i ahve noticed there are violators on listia that have purchased 100’s of auctions without getting rid of one single thing… which leads to two options either they spent a ton of $ to get credits or they found a way to abuse the system and truly get free s**t….. i’d like to start a discussion among the listia users about this hyper inflation we been experiencing last 4 months… credit values went from 1245/$ to over 3500/$.. it’s becoming preposterous!!!! thus instead of saving credits up to buy something nice.. those of us with two brain cells realize we gotta spend credits as fast as we make them. really lame!!!!

      • Crackerjack9 says:

I, too, always offer free shoipping and I, too, think that prices have risen enormously. I don’t know if I can blame Listia for that. The prices I see on here for coins, silver, collectibles and more…especially the fixed prices, are so outrageous that I wouldn’t even click on the listing. I wonder if they make much in sales? No matter, I can’t be a hypocrite, so I will stick to my ways and offer free shipping and only bid on those listings that offer it too. Maybe if more people felt this way, Listia could go back to the way it was when it was fun and affordable.

PS…I know “Everybody can’t afford to pay for shipping” but I often see $2.25 to mail a coin or $6.00 to mail a tiny pair of earrings and so on…I mean, c’mon…you can ship cheaper than that. You know it and we know it.

      • Veronica says:

I also have noticed that those who refuse to combine shipping do so because they say they are packaged differently, I went a head and tried it once learned my lesson when they arrived in ziploc baggies for postage less than one. When I started you could do a lot with your credits but now you bid on one thing and can’t bid on anything else it sucks big time. And I agree a tiny bag of seed beads and they want $2.99 or more shipping when it just needs one stamp. I have one seller who really does it right she allows you to fill a $7 priority box or envelope and she holds on to it until it is filled if you want, this is a great deal for her customers.

  2. John Payne says:

So you are willing to allow fix prices for anyone’s listing but your own reward store has to be an auction ? Sort of do as I say not as I do !

  3. other than this was a massively confusing explanation, two things I’d like to see is a saved search results screen – there are some items I’m always on the look for but honestly I forget week to week so if I wanted to look up fast in DVDs, I could just save that search. secondly, I’d love to be able to prevent people with bad feedback from bidding on my auctions; granted most of the time they don’t win them, but having someone with 38% feedback bidding is always concerning to me.

    • Hi there, thanks for the feedback! We do in fact have a “saved search feature” already 🙂 It will email you any time there are new results. On the web, click on “save search” near the top left of the search results, and on iOS there’s a button at the top as well.. It’s not available on Android apps at the moment, but hopefully soon! In the meantime, you can save it on the web, thanks!

  4. I dont see any changes on the iphone app, are they available or do we have to update the app? Im glad you all are doing this i just hope people dont start listing crazy high Gin prices now because the “listing” part will be gone or shall i say an “option” now. I have noticed that some auction listings have been selling really low compared to their Gin prices, im hoping this doesnt leave all the small $1 items for auction while the high priced ones only for those who have a gazillion credits. Here we go again.

    • We’re working on adding the functionality to the iOS/Android apps, and hope to have updates on the app store soon! That’s just for listing new fixed price listings, though. On the existing apps you’ll already be able to use GIN to win items with fixed price today.

      • how come the android app do not have a warning when one is selling that something has sold… as well as when one is outbid… so freaking lame listia… just as lame as raising the maximum buy in credit amount from 400/$to 2137/$… beyond lame… as if you are trying to implode your market place. f****g bs!!!!

  5. Big Daddy Mack says:

This seems like a good idea.

So, someone can list an auction, and they have no bids, but someone can message them and say “I’ll give 10,000 right now.” and they will be able to pull/repost at 10,000?

However, I feel, disrupting the value of a Listia Credit by flooding the market with half a million to a million credits in “drawings” is ruining it for the rest of the folks who are diligently working to buy things.

Any work coming about for a “An Auction You Bid on/are watching is Ending Soon” notification? I keep forgetting, until I get the “Auction has Ended” notification. Please make it happen. I cant be the only one.

    • I always get notification of auctions on my watch list “is ending in 4 hours”.

      • Crackerjack9 says:

I think Listia has a Facebook and Twitter page. Or better yet, why not START a facebook page for Listia conversations? That would be fun! I’d be your first member!

  6. 326sunshine says:

This sounds good in theory. Maybe now sellers can recoup cost + shipping of items. It’s great for Listia because instead of receiving a fixed amount of credits they will receive 10% of your win if you use any of the 3 featured listings.

This would be nice if Listia could figure out something on the credits for the Reward Store. Either people can not count or they don’t mind blowing credits for triple or more for the items listed in the store. (Go figure)

I also think in my humble opinion that there will still be plenty of items for all to be able to win. These new features may or may not encourage people to list more items.

Now, as a Seller. I think that there should be something in place that will not allow a person to make a bid on a item until their address has been verified.

    • Debra Benyshek says:

I agree. No one that just signs up should be able to list an auction or bid on an auction without first completing the varification process .

  7. the seller does not benefir, if they cannot charge shipping cost, it gets expensive and the points dont seem to add up enough to get anything worthwhile, all my listings are deleted, and im not going to spend 100’s of dollars shipping brand new items out, its not a charity case for people, esecially with the cost of shipping . packaging etc,

  8. have had a lot of minors on site also

  9. love this

  10. As a fairly new member of Listia I am frustrated because I submitted a help request over a week ago regarding a non-responsive buyer and have gotten no response. This buyer seems to have scammed a lot of folks but remains a member, giving Listia a bad name. She bid and won Sunflower seeds from me and after quite a run around she did receive them (I provided tracking).
So am I out the 7000 + credits because she will not acknowledge?? I submitted help request from my Listia app, including all details.

  11. Sarah Perlman says:

    Hi,
I am still confused with the new system. Can I still post items for auction as before, or do I HAVE to do the fixed price?
Also, I would appreciate an option to RELIST ITEM when the auction ends without bids and is not relisted. It is really time consuming to start from scratch listing all the items and retyping all the information.
    Thank you.

    • UniqueJewelry says:

There is a relist option =) If you go to your profile look on the left hand side under your picture and look on the second blue option, it says “Your Listings” . Click on the one under it that says “OPEN” . On each of your listings without clicking on them , It says add to Watch list, Edit, Delete and then a box you can check that says “Auto Relist ” …. You can check that box if there has been any bids placed yet =) It is there and it does save time =) Hope this helps and you find the little box to check and wah la , your item will relist if there are not any bids =)

  12. Why did you change your rewards store from a fixed GIN store to an auction? I have not been to listia in a while and just saw the change. Not happy with it at all. I used your store for christmas and big gifts for my family but now probably will not return at all to listia do to this change. Sad you had a great thing going.

  13. Why don’t you just leave things alone.?? Why does listia need more of our credits? We should be able to list as we choose like we did before . if people didn’t like it they didn’t bid. If they wanted it they bid the whole purpose of this is a bidding site and now not so much. Listia has really started to suck.

  14. 10% transaction fee list something for 15000 points and lose 500 credits on top of a 50 credit listing fee I have been here for 6 years this place is getting sneaky,so thanks to Listia increasing disregard for the Lister I am on longer going to list things here and will most likely not come here much anymore not that they care or will ever read this so what’s it matter they obviously don’t care.Greedy Californians……bye bye Listia

  15. Linda UniqueJewelry says:

Not to mention the Outrageous credits for the gift cards now. Just in the past couple of months I have seen them triple . I liked getting the gift cards because it helped me save on my household items as where I could use the income I have left over to help with shipping costs and such for the items I list and now I cant even get 100.00 card for 400,000 credits so I don’t even know why I am working so hard at making the credits when I have nothing to spend them on and I also truly enjoyed the Rewards store before they made the changes on that also =/ They can put a limit on shipping costs for items I think they should put a cap on gift cards before it gets even crazier than it already is o_O

  16. So, let me get this straight? I normally list my auctions at 50 or 75 credits plus the cost of shipping. I cannot ship things off for free. This new “rule” pretty much means no credits for me and I will only recover my shipping cost? What a crock!

    • Pandora, don’t start your listings for less than you will be happy with and any higher bids will just be gravy. If your shipping price is fair, it won’t be a problem to serious bidders.
Only offer free shipping if you start a listing high enough to satisfy you and includes the cost of shipping.

  17. Heres another example of a large corporation cashing in on the little guy trying to have some fun, when I came to Listia over 4 years ago it was a fun place but now it’s not and nobody seems to care. What Pandora said is true so I think I will cash in points and bid you all goodbye,if I have any auctions listed at that time they will not be shipped…by the way nobody from Listia reads these anyway

  18. Cheryl says:

I spent $15.00 on shipping, listed four items to get 2500 credits, got 50 for each item taken from me to list, then have to pay credits for selling! It seems that I wasted my precious time! I can go to the store and spend less money and time! I buy credits and spend more than buying the item new!

  19. ListiaUser2016 says:

Calling all Listia users who are sick and tired of Listia inflating the credit values! Go here and sign my petition to stop them!

    https://www.change.org/p/listia-com-listia-stop-credit-inflation-now?recruiter=589410887&utm_source=share_for_starters&utm_medium=copyLink

    • Ok I might sign the petition however I doubt it will do any good Listia ignores everyone I have been at Listia for over 6 years they have answered only 3 of my many requests, question… nor do they read or respond to ANY of these blogs good luck with this I support you. They are going to whatever they to the are now an LLP company the weren’t 5 years ago

      • ListiaUser2016 says:

Very true! They just don’t give a shit about the users who actually bust their asses to earn credits anymore! Now it’s new users who come on and buy credits instead of earning them or and the fact that people can sell their credits is making the credit value skyrocket! Would be funny as hell to see them get royally DDoS! Not saying I’m going to do it lol I don’t know how to DDoS but it would be funny to see Listia get hit by someone

      • I agree with you listia has went down hill they don’t care about use long timers all they care about is getting paid real money for having the site up us good sellers get screwed by this newbies that come along and listia could care less

  20. I am one of those bad members who buy most of my credits. I used to list loads of auctions but then the rules changed and those changes excluded most of my auctions. Personally I think buying credits is frivolous and a waste of good money (at least it is for what I bid on). BUT I have fun on Listia. I enjoy the site. And I’ve met many really nice people here. Soooo it is worth the extra cost to me. Another thing, does anyone think a seller cares how the buyer got their credits as long as the seller is getting paid for their listing???

  21. I think if you have sent your item with tracking are if it’s digital delivery of a gift card and you have sent your item your credit should be released immediately you should not have to wait for your credit especially if you have already sent your item especially if you been on listia more then 3 years there are a lot of buyers who will not release credits are send feedback then a good seller is left setting and waiting on there credits for 21 days which is not fair all credits should be released immediately after sending item so how about fixing that problem asap while you are at it

  22. Diana Malko says:

I need a list of the new pricing. Not happy with the change. Also put complaint about sellers not sending there items if they don’t get the price they want.It happened to me with two different name brand wallets I won.One woman wanted money from me after I won with credits. They are still on here no hing was done.
